TechCon 2017: Celebrating 60 Years of Vacuum Coating Innovation

Vacuum coating suppliers, equipment manufacturers and service providers recently gathered for TechCon, the annual conference of The Society of Vacuum Coaters held at the Rhode Island Convention Center from April 29th-May 4th.

Celebrating 60 years of innovation, this year’s exhibition featured a broad array of suppliers involved in vacuum coating technology, including magnetron, target, instrumentation, vacuum component and coating equipment manufacturers. Equipment suppliers featured diverse offerings ranging from lab-scale, research and development coating machinery to high-throughput production systems. Inline, roll-to-roll and cluster tools were also represented.

Technical sessions featured life science applications for vacuum coating technology, including healthcare, biometric monitoring and bio interfaces.

Judging by the applications the exhibitors discussed and showcased, it’s clear that vacuum coating technology continues to be fundamental to many cutting-edge technologies. Advances in nanotechnology and nano-structured materials continue to make vacuum coating an exciting and ever-changing field.
